A Pragmatic Approach to Ethical Evaluation of Emerging Technologies——Also on the Feasibility of Applying Neo-Pragmatism to Expectation Systems Theory
In order to solve the normative defects and the neglect of the co-plasticity of technology and society in the previous emerging technology assessment methods,a pragmatic approach to ethical e-valuation of emerging technologies is proposed in the context of the ethics of"technology blindness"and the STS method with normative defects to incorporate ethical inquiry into technical assessments.Pragmatist ethics provides a normative framework based on democratic deliberation that resonates with the inherent normative nature of technology assessment,focuses on contingency,relies on specific context,recognizes co-plasticity between technology and society,and outlines its underlying principles and issues change.Fi-nally,it points out the fit of the predictive function in neo-pragmatism as a form of pragmatism and Ros-en's anticipation system,showing the rationality and feasibility of neo-pragmatism applied to the ethical evaluation of emerging technologies.
