摘要
以功能对等原则为依据，英语明喻和暗喻具有五种译法：直译法、转译法、意译法、增译法和直译意译分译法。从英汉两种语言在比喻方面表现的文化异同来说，上述五种译法不乏科学性、适用性和可行性。
Abstract
In the light of the principle of functional equivalence, this paper raises and discusses five approaches to translation of English simile and metaphor into Chinese. The five metbods go as follows: literal translation, change in images or vehicles, liberal translation, addition, both literal and liberal translation. By analysing the cultural similarities and differences involved in figures of speech of Chinese & English, the paper elucidates the appropriateness and feasibility of the above-mentioned methods.
