How Can Farmers'Cooperatives Retain Rural Labor Forces in the Context of Rural Revitalization?——An inquiry from the perspective of new migration economics
Farmers'cooperatives are an important organizational form of rural collective economy, and an important starting point for promoting the strategy of rural revitalization.Using the 2020 China Rural Revitalization Survey(CRRS)data, this paper examines the impact of farmers'decision to join cooperatives on the choice of migrant workers from the perspective of new migration economics. The research findings are as follows:after farmers join their cooperatives, the probability of migrant workers in the family is reduced by 6.8%,mechanism analysis shows that farmers'participation in cooperatives can promote the development of rural industries and non-ag-ricultural operations, improve their credit availability, absolute income and relative income,so as to weaken the motivation of rural la-borers to go out for work;farmers'participation in cooperatives significantly reduces the probability of labor force working in the county and across provinces, and only when farmers with better family endowment conditions join cooperatives can the probability of labor force going out for work be reduced. This study deepens the understanding of the micro effects of farmers'cooperatives and the transmission mechanism of alleviating rural labor loss, and provides an important reference for attracting rural laborers to return home and promoting rural revitalization.
