Before participating in the organization of Hunan work-study movement in France,Cai Hesen had explored various propos-als for saving the country.During the preparation for this movement in Beijing,he underwent significant ideological changes,beginning to engage with the Marxist-Leninist doctrines,and then starting to propagate Marxism.Upon arriving in France,he fiercely studied and translated the works by Marx and Lenin,while investigating the social situation.He soon became a pioneer in the faith of Marxism,leading the work-study students in France to carry out three large-scale protest movements.Cai Hesen's ideological transformation in-fluenced many work-study students in France and members of the Xinmin Society.The reasons for his transformation were related to the influence of Huxiang culture,the instruction of his teacher,Mr.Yang Changji,his own reflections on social issues,and the guidance from Li Dazhao and Chen Duxiu.
