Doppler positioning method and experiment based on Starlink beacon signal
In the next decade, tens of thousands of low Earth orbit(LEO)satellites will be launched around the world to form a mega constellation, which will provide a large number of opportunity signals of different frequency bands, bandwidths and formats for positioning and navigation applications. In order to facilitate the use of satellite opportunity signals,a lightweight modular universal receiving device is designed, which firstly observe the beacon signal at the center of the interval(11.95 GHz/12.45 GHz)between the downlink signal channels of the Starlink satellite.Based on the beacon signal,a Doppler extraction and positioning method is proposed. Then field experiments are carried out,in which the signals of six Starlink satellites are acquired and the receiving station is positioned using these signals. The receiving device's three-dimenaional(3D)positioning error is 28.9 m and horizontal positioning error is 11.8 m,which demonstrates the practical effectiveness of Doppler positioning based on Starlink beacon signals.
