Value of Metagenomics Next-generation Sequencing in Pathogen Detection in Patients with Lung Infections
Objective To explore the diagnostic value of metagenomics next-generation sequencing(mNGS)for clini-cal detection of pathogens in patients with pulmonary infection. Methods A total of 70 patients with suspected pulmo-nary infection admitted to the Respiratory Department of Liyang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from Janu-ary to December 2022 were selected as the study objects. All patients underwent mNGS detection and sputum culture. The bacterial culture results were used as the gold standard to compare the pathogen detection rates of mNGS detec-tion and sputum culture. Results The results of bacterial culture showed that among the 70 suspected patients with pulmonary infection,50 cases were confirmed with pulmonary infection and 20 cases were uninfected. The sensitivity(100.00%),specificity(95.00%)and accuracy(98.57%)of mNGS were significantly higher than that of sputum cul-ture,and the differences were statistically significant(χ2=40.000,8.167,52.071,all P<0.05).The results of bacterial culture showed that a total of 18 cases of Pseudomonas aeruginosa,12 cases of streptococcus pneumoniae,8 cases of Aspergus,6 cases of mycobacterium tuberculosis and 6 cases of non-mycobacterium tuberculosis were detected. The probability of pathogen detection by mNGS was higher than that of sputum culture, but there was no statistical signifi-cance between two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion mNGS technology can effectively avoid the false negative problem of traditional sputum culture,so as to diagnose the pathogen type of lung infection patients with high accuracy.
