Role of Blood 25(OH)D Levels in Promoting Growth and Development in Very Low Birth Weight Infants
Objective To investigate the role of blood 25(OH)D level in promoting the growth and development of very low birth weight infants. Methods A total of 80 very low birth weight(VLBW)premature infants admitted to the Department of Neonatology,Shenzhen Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine from July 2020 to May 2023 were selected as study objects.According to the random number table method, the children were di-vided into control group(n=40)and study group(n=40).The control group was given oral vitamin D3 900 IU/D,and the study group was given oral vitamin D3 1 300 IU/D.The bone metabolism indexes, growth and development in-dexes and complications of the two groups were compared. Results Blood 25(OH)D,blood calcium and blood phos-phorus of the study group were higher than those of the control group on 21 d and 35 d,and blood alkaline phospha-tase(ALP)and parathyroid hormone were lower than those of the control group, the differences were statistically sig-nificant(all P<0.05).The complication rate of the study group was 12.50%,lower than that of the control group(22.50%),but the difference between groups was not statistically significant(χ2=2.813,P>0.05).Conclusion Supple-mentation of vitamin D3 1 300 IU/D can effectively increase blood 25(OH)D level, regulate calcium and phosphorus metabolism, promote growth and development of infants, and reduce the risk of metabolic bone disease and other com-plications in VLBW premature infants.
