Application of Serum Ferritin,Erythrocyte Parameters and Erythrocyte Morphology in the Assessment of Iron Deficiency Anemia in Pregnant Women
Objective To investigate the role of serum ferritin(SF),erythrocyte parameters and erythrocyte morphol-ogy in the evaluation of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women. Methods Clinical data of seventy-six pregnant women with anemia admitted to Sishui County People's Hospital from January 2022 to December 2022 were retrospec-tively selected.According to the type of anemia, they were divided into iron deficiency anemia group(37 cases)and non-iron deficiency anemia(39 cases),and forty-two pregnant women with routine screening during the same period(no anemia)were selected as the healthy group.SF,erythrocyte parameters[mean corpuscular volume(MCV),mean corpuscular hemoglobin(MCH),red blood cell(RBC),red blood cell volume distribution width(RDW),hemoglobin(Hb),hematocrit(HCT)]and the morphology of red blood cells under microscope were compared among the 3 groups. Results The levels of SF,MCV and MCH in iron deficiency anemia group were lower than those in healthy group, and RBC and RDW were higher than those in healthy group, the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The levels of MCV,MCH and SF in patients with iron deficiency anemia were lower than those in non-iron deficiency ane-mia group, and the levels of RBC and RDW were higher than those in non-iron deficiency anemia group, the differ-ences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).There was no significant difference in Hb and HCT levels between the non-iron deficiency anemia group and the iron deficiency anemia group(both P>0.05).The proportion of abnormal red blood cells in iron deficiency anemia group was(9.62±2.03)%,which was lower than that in non-iron deficiency anemia group(67.19±6.78)%,and the difference was statistically significant(t=49.570,P<0.05).In the iron deficiency anemia group, the levels of MCV,Hb and SF in mild, moderate and severe patients were gradually decreased, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The levels of MCV,Hb and SF were negatively correlated with the degree of iron deficiency anemia(r=-0.587,-0.591,-0.756,all P<0.001).Conclusion In pregnant women with anemia, changes in red blood cell parameters, red blood cell morphology and SF level will occur in pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia, and MCV,Hb and SF levels will decrease with the exacerbation of iron deficiency ane-mia,which can be considered as an indicator for the assessment of patient conditions.
