Rethinking Empirical Methodology in Political Science:Trends,Challenges and Prospects
Political science research has a fundamental division between normative research and empirical research, and political methodology is a key support for empirical political science research.Since the 1990s,political methodology has gradually developed into an independent research field, experiencing phases including the comprehensive integration of quantitative methods, the development of mixed political science methods, causal mechanism revolution, and the coming of big data era.Political methodology is becoming more specialized and complex, and its ever-evolving nature presents ongoing opportunities and challenges for empirical political research.Producing distinct"political science"research within the trends of theory-driven and data-driven research paradigms, interdisciplinary perspectives, and diverse methodological integration remains a persistent challenge. For the Chinese politics science community, which still lacks a comprehensive knowledge system of current political methodology, providing more incentives for quantitative research to promote overall progress in political methodology remains a significant challenge.
