Abstract

With the COVID-19 pandemic appearing repetitively, vaccination has become an important means of building immunity.Based on a survey of 586 individuals who have received the COVID-19 vaccine, this study analyzes the influence of social media use on COVID-19 vaccination behavior, focusing on the mediating effect of social norms at both the ingroup and outgroup levels. The study found that the more individuals use social media, the more likely they are to actively receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and this effect is mediated by injunctive norms at the ingroup level, descriptive and injunctive norms at the outgroup level.By researching the mechanisms underlying the influence of social media use on COVID-19 vaccination behavior, this study enriches our understanding of the regularities of epidemic prevention behavior in academia.By introducing the concepts of ingroup and outgroup based on the realistic structure of Chinese social communication, this study expands our understanding of the relationship between social norms and public health protection behavior.
