Ferroptosis is a new pattern of cell death characterized by increased lipid reactive oxygen species and accu-mulation of intracellular ferrous ions.Many studies have verified the complex relationship between ferroptosis and cardiovascular diseases,and intervention of ferroptosis has become a new therapeutic idea for cardiovascular disea-ses.Based on the inherent characteristics of cardiovascular diseases and cell injury,the present article discusses the theoretical basis of ferroptosis in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.We review the association between ferrop-tosis and cardiovascular diseases in terms of epigenetics and the role of stem cell exosomes.Exosomes can deliver dif-ferent molecules to regulate the death pathways of cardiomyocytes and vascular endothelial cells.Intervention of ferroptosis in target cells with exosomes is a new potential therapeutic target and research direction for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in the future.
