With the advancement of accessibility modification of mobile Internet applications,it has be-come a focus of attention to explore how older groups integrate into the society with the help of media tech-nology.Based on the short-video practices of older groups, this study analyzes the impact of individual differences, platform technologies, and family and social environment,on the degree of digital integration of older users. Results show that the narrowing of the digital divide(hardware terminals, network access)and the popularization of ageing(interface design, content ecology)have made it possible for the majority of ol-der adults to access short videos. The key factors affecting the use of short videos by older adults include in-dividual physical fitness and media skills, role modeling and peer influence, the mindset of defying old age and the willingness to self-present,as well as the platform's addictive design(auto-play,algorithmic rec-ommendation,incentive mechanism).Older people form two different patterns of purposeful instrumental use and uncontrolled habituation when using short videos. In addition, short videos act as a companion medium,a social medium, and a memory medium, and become an indispensable emotional patch in the life of the elderly.
