A Preliminary Study on the Improvement of Motorcycles'Rear Drive System Chain Noise
With respect to the chain noise of motorcycles which adopt roller chain as the rear drive sys-tem,a systematic analysis is carried out to study the meshing mechanical noise between the chain and the sprocket.First, the impact process of the noise is illustrated through a multi-body dynamic simulation. With the help of this dynamic model, the influence that engine sprocket tooth profile parameters have on the noise was discussed and verified by experiment. In particular, the meshing noise between the engine sprocket which contains a damping rubber and the chain was analyzed. With the increase of driving mileage, the relationship between the deterioration of the chain noise and the wear of the damping rubber was also mentioned.A static force model was established to calculate the surface pressure of the damping rubber and hence particular countermeasures were pointed out to eliminate the surface pressure so as to reduce the chain noise to an acceptable level.
