Study on the Influence of Ignition Timing on the Oper-ating Characteristics of a Free Piston Engine Generator
Abs tract:Accurate ignition timing is the key to the stable operation of the free piston engine generator(FPEG).A non-contact photoelectric control ignition system was designed, and the influence of ignition tim-ing on the operation characteristics of the engine was studied experimentally and numerically. The experi-mental results show that the FPEG achieves stable operation with the photoelectric control ignition system. As ignition timing gradually moves away from the cylinder head, the operating frequency, average in-cylin-der pressure and indicated power of the engine increase first and then decrease. The optimal ignition trigger point is 9mm from the cylinder head.Under the optimal ignition point condition, the engine presents best op-erating stability. The numerical results show that the in-cylinder flame propagates spherically, and the flame propagation speed decreases with the increase of the distance between the ignition position and the cylinder head.Meanwhile, the total heat release amount is increased first and then decreased.
