From"Descendants of Huang Yan"to"Descendants of Yan Huang":The Transformation of Yan Di's Identity in Early Discourse
As the cultural ancestor of the Chinese nation, the identity of Yan Di underwent a significant transformation in the early discourse of China. In the four stages of the transformation of Yan Di's identity,dur-ing the Spring and Autumn period,Yan Di gradually differentiated into the Yan Di with great virtue and the Yan Di who was conquered by Huang Di.The former was often regarded as Yan Di himself and ruled the world before the Huang Di.Later,he merged with Shen Nong and not only rose to become the"Three Emperors",but also formed a continuous pattern with the Huang Di;The latter is gradually labeled as immoral and rebellious,to the point of being seen not as the Yan Di himself, but rather as descendants or others of the Yan Di.The deep reason for the transformation and differentiation of Yan Di's identity lies in the objective process of ethnic inte-gration in the land of China, which contains the enrichment and enhancement of cultural consciousness in the Chinese region. This provides an important conceptual foundation for the cultural identity recognition of the Chi-nese national community consciousness.
