Regional Differences and Dynamic Evolution of the Running Efficiency of Chinese Provincial Higher Education Institutions in the Context of"Double-First Class"Construction
In order to study the level, gap and dynamic evolution of the running efficiency of Chinese pro-vincial higher education institutions after the launch of the"Double-First Class"construction, the study adopts the super-efficiency DEA method to evaluate the running efficiency of Chinese provincial higher educa-tion institutions during 2016 to 2021,and uses the Dagum Gini coefficient and the Kernel density estimation method to measure the source of regional gaps and their distribution in the running efficiency of Chinese provin-cial higher education institutions. The study shows that the average efficiency value of the whole country and the four regions shows a U-shaped trend of decreasing and then increasing, and the number of provinces with optimal efficiency also shows a U-shaped trend of decreasing and then increasing. The running efficiency gap of Chinese provincial higher education institutions shows a trend of"first decreasing, then increasing, then de-creasing,and then increasing".The regional disparities within the four major regions, from large to small, are in the order of East,West,Central, and Northeast. The largest inter regional disparities are in North-east&East,East&West,and East&Central. The main source of regional disparities is hypervariable density, followed by inter regional disparities, and the contribution of intra regional disparities is the smallest. The spa-tial gap in the running efficiency of higher education institutions nationwide is gradually widening, with obvi-ous polarization characteristics in the eastern, central, and northeastern regions.
