Exploration in Stuffing Methods of Bird Skull and Lower Limb Bone Specimens for Taxonomy Teaching
The skull and lower limb bones of birds in different ecological groups have obvious differences, skeletal specimens are of great value in the teaching of animal taxonomy.Five species of birds including Streptopelia orientalis,Turdus merula,Alauda gulgula,Gallus gallus domesticus and Asio otus were selected for bone specimens. The hardness,integrity,white-ness and fidelity of bones were used as performance indicators.Direct observation methods and variable control methods were used to explore the corrosion and bleaching effects of bones under different reagent concentrations and treatment times. The re-sults showed that the optimum time for corrosion and bleaching of Streptopelia orientalis,Turdus merula and Alauda gulgu-la was 12 hours; The optimum time of skull corrosion and bleaching of Gallus gallus domesticus was 8 h and 4 h,respective-ly;The optimum time of skull corrosion and bleaching of Asio otus was 4h and 8h,respectively;The optimum concentration of skull corrosion and bleaching of Streptopelia orientalis and Turdus merula was 6%;The corrosion and bleaching concentra-tions of Alauda gulgula skull were 5%and 4%,respectively;The concentration of Gallus gallus domesticus skull was 4%;The corrosion and bleaching concentrations of Asio otus skull were 4%and 5%.This technology breaks through the bottleneck that has long restricted the production technology of bird bone specimens, greatly reduces the threshold of bird bone specimen production technology, and is especially suitable for college students to operate, thereby achieving the purpose of training the practical skills of contemporary college students.
