Growth and Development of Nestling Little Egret (Egretta garzetta)at Outskirts of Nanchong City in Sichuan
In May—July 2006, the growth and development of nestling little egret (Egretta garzetta) was observed and measured at outskirts of Nanchong city, Sichuan. Also, logistic growth curves was used to mathematically fit on nestling weight, body length, bill length, rictus length, wing length, tarsus, primary and secondary flight feathers, tail length and middle toe, and obtained related growth parameters. All degrees of fitting (R2 ) were above 0.95 ,which indicates that the logistic growth curve model could well interpret growth and development of the nestling little egret. In addition, the middle toe, tarsus and rictus length of nestling little egret were earlier development than wing length, tail length, primary and secondary flight feathers, which resulted from nestlings frequently used these organs for food.
