Relationship between perceived social support and perception of social norm violation in college students
Objective To explore the relationship between perceived social support and perception of others´ behavior against social norms in college students. Methods A total of 175 college students in northern Jiangsu were selected as the research subjects. The perceived social support scale(PSSS)was used to investigate the level of perceived social support, and the social norm violation task was used to record the rating score.the original score difference between weak social norm violation and appropriate behavior(weakly social norm-violating,WSN)was used to represent, and the original score difference between strong social norm violation and appropriate behavior.Strongly social norm-violating(SSN),WSN and SSN were used as indicators to detect the sensitivity of social norm violation.Correlation analysis and regression analysis were used to detect the relationship between perceived social support and the perception of others´ behavior against social norms. Results The scores of PSSS and its dimensions were negatively correlated with the results of WSN and SSN(r =-0.713~-0.387,P<0.01).The scores of PSSS and its dimension scores had a significantly negative predictive effect on WSN and SSN(P<0.001).Conclusion Perceived social support has an important predictive effect on the perception of social norm violation in college students. The stronger the individual´s ability to perceive social support, the lower the rating score of social norm violation behavior, which is manifested as the stricter the evaluation of social norm violation behavior, the more sensitive the perception of social norm violation behavior.
