Objective To explore the current situation and its correlation between mobile phone addiction and empathy among higher vocational nursing students. Methods A total of 242 cases of higher vocational nursing students were recruited randomly by whole cluster sampling method, and the SAS-C and JSE-HP were used to measure the survey. Results The total empathy ability score of 242 nursing students was111.3±14.7,the total score of SAS-C was 56.4±12.9,and the tendency of mobile phone addiction accounted for 26.4%;the SAS-C score of those whose commonly used function of cell phone was mainly entertainment was the highest(60±12),and that of those whose commonly used function was learning was the lowest(53±14).Those who used socialization as their usual function had the highest empathy score(113±15).There was a significant difference in the SAS-C scores of nursing students with different usual functions of cell phones(F = 6.555,P = 0.002).There was a significant negative correlation between empathy and mobile phone addiction on the total scores and multidimensional scores(P<0.05).Conclusion The empathy ability of vocational nursing students is negatively correlated with mobile phone addiction. The more severe the mobile phone addiction, the lower the empathy ability.Schools should take effective measures timely to guide students to use their phones correctly,so as to improve their empathy ability.
