Objective To explore the effects of home environment on the mental health of adolescents and the gender differences in the mechanism of action. Methods Home environmental factors such as family socioeconomic status, family conflict and family expectation were used to construct a structural equation model affecting adolescents'mental health. On this basis, mediation analysis and multi-group analysis were conducted. Results The direct effects of family socioeconomic status on adolescents'mental health was significant[β=0.14,95%CI(0.09,0.19)].Family conflict and family expectation had a significant mediating effect between family socioeconomic status and mental health[β=-0.04,95%CI(-0.06,-0.02);β=0.02,95%CI(0.01,0.05)].Gender played a moderating role in the mechanism by which family socioeconomic status affected adolescents'mental health through family conflict. There were significant gender differences in the effect of family socioeconomic status on family conflicts(P<0.05),which for male adolescents was greater than which for female adolescents. Moreover,Significant gender differences existed in the effect of family conflicts on mental health(P<0.05),with the effect being more profound for female adolescents compared to male adolescents. Conclusion Family socioeconomic status exerts a direct influence on adolescents'mental health, while also indirectly affecting it through family conflict and family expectations. The issue of family conflict is particularly prevalent among male adolescents, whereas mental health concerns are more prominent among female adolescents.
