Objective To explore the effect of short video use and emotional priming on body image anxiety among freshmen in universities. Methods A total of 380 freshman students from a medical university were surveyed using the short video usage scale and the adolescent student body image anxiety questionnaire.Additionally, the emotional priming method was employed to investigate the influence of emotions on body image anxiety.Results① A negative correlation was found between short video usage and body image depression(r=-0.25,P<0.05);②Among those experiencing body image depression, there was a more pronounced negative emotional priming effect(t=2.147,P<0.05);③Significant interaction effects were observed among group, emotional priming, word type, and attentional bias components(Group×Word Type:F=4.079,P<0.05;Emotional Priming×Attentional Bias:F=4.427,P<0.05;Word Type×Emotional Priming×Attentional Bias:F=4.910,P<0.05;Group×Word Type×Emotional Priming×Attentional Bias:F=5.552,P<0.05).Conclusion A negative correlation was identified between short video usage and body image depression scores.Individuals with body image depression exhibited a more pronounced negative emotional priming effect. In the early stages of attention, individuals with body image distress had trouble disengaging from negative body image stimuli. In the later stages of attention, those with body image distress displayed difficulty disengaging from positive body image stimuli under positive emotions and from negative body image stimuli under negative emotions. These suggests an overall difficulty in disengaging from body image-related stimuli among individuals with body image distress.
