Objective To understand the daily emotional state, psychological resilience, academic emotional status, and correlations among various variables among students in various types of higher education institutions. Methods This study utilized the Beck Depression Inventory,Psychological Resilience Scale, and General Academic Emotion Questionnaire to conduct a questionnaire survey among 728 randomly selected students from several universities in Guangdong Province,China.Statistical analyses of the questionnaire survey data were conducted using independent samples t-tests,one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA),and Pearson correlation analysis. Results The demographic analysis results indicated that female students had higher average scores on the Beck Depression Inventory compared to male students(t=-2.248,P=0.237),but the difference was not statistically significant.Students from regular colleges exhibited higher scores on the Beck Depression Inventory compared to those from key colleges and vocational colleges(F=4.228,P=0.015).Higher-grade students tended to have higher scores on the Beck Depression Inventory(t=-2.522,P=0.854),but the difference was not statistically significant. There was a positive correlation between depression scores and negative academic emotions(P<0.05),indicating that students with higher Beck Depression Inventory scores tended to have higher levels of negative academic emotions.Regarding the role of psychological resilience, there was a negative correlation between the level of psychological resilience and students'scores on the Beck Depression Inventory and negative academic emotions(P<0.05).Conclusion The daily negative emotions of university students can affect their academic emotions.Among these, psychological resilience plays a protective role in the mental health and academic emotions of university students.Universities need to pay attention to the emotional state of students and strengthen the cultivation of psychological resilience to continuously improve students'mental health levels.
