Objective To explore the mental health status of junior one students in boarding school,and to provide direction for mental health education of middle school students.Methods A survey was conducted on 3 220 junior one students in a boarding school from 2015 to 2023 using the Mental Health Test(MHT)for primary and secondary school students.Results ① The most prominent issues among first-year boarding school students were impulsivity(detection rate of 23.51%),followed by somatic symptoms(detection rate of 23.26%),and fearfulness(detection rate of 20.40%).The total number of detections on the full scale was 97,accounting for 3.01%.②Female students scored higher than male students on the full scale and on each factor individually.③Freshmen scored higher on self-blame tendencies compared to older students(t=2.527).④Loneliness tendencies showed an increasing trend year by year,while self-blame tendencies exhibited a decreasing trend.Allergy tendencies and fearfulness tendencies showed a declining trend.Conclusion The mental health status of junior one students in boarding school cannot be ignored.The school and family should form a joint effort to pay attention to the mental health of students.
