Predictive role of impulsive behavior on anxiety among college students:the mediating effect of smartphone addiction
Objective To explore the effect of impulsive behavior on anxiety,to understand the role of mobile phone addiction in the relationship chain,and to provide ideas for the intervention of anxiety symptoms.Methods Students from four universities in Jiangsu Province were used as sample sources,and questionnaire survey was used to analyze demographic characteristics,impulsive behavior,mobile phone addiction and anxiety traits.The Pearson correlation was used to explore the correlation between impulsive behavior,anxiety and mobile phone addiction,the Process plug-in of SPSS was used to test the mediator effect of mobile phone addiction between impulsive behavior and college students'anxiety,and the Bootstrap sampling test(5 000 repeated sampling)was used to test the significance of the regression coefficient.Results A total of 1019 participants were included.College students had impulsive behavior;There were 497 people with no anxiety(48.77%),361 with mild anxiety,66 with moderate anxiety,and 95 with high anxiety,accounting for 35.43%,6.48%,and 9.32%,respectively.There were 245 college students with mobile phone addiction,accounting for 24.04%.The impulsive behavior of college students could significantly and positively predict mobile phone addiction and anxiety(β=0.396,P<0.001;β=0.360,P<0.001),and mobile phone addiction had a significant partial mediating effect between impulsive behavior and anxiety[95%CI(0.273,0.543),excluding 0].Conclusion Impulsive behavior and the increase of mobile phone addiction can induce anxiety in college students,and impulsive behavior can indirectly enhance college students'anxiety by aggravating the risk of mobile phone addiction.Therefore,reasonable inhibition of impulsive behavior can help to reduce the mobile phone addiction of college students and reduce the risk of anxiety among college students.
