Effects of self-esteem on mobile phone dependence among college students:the mediating role of time management deposition
Objective To explore the relationship among self-esteem,time management disposition and mobile phone dependence of college students,and to provide scientific basis for reducing mobile phone dependence of college students.Methods A survey was conducted in December 2021 among 404 college students from 3 universities in Shanxi province.Self-esteem Scale,Adolescent Time Management Disposition Scale,and Mobile Phone Addiction Index Scale were used to investigate college students'self-esteem,time management disposition and mobile phone addiction.Results Compared to normals,college students were generally highly dependent on mobile phones(39±11)(t=13.199,P<0.001).There was a significant correlation among self-esteem,time management disposition,and mobile phone dependence.Self-esteem was negatively correlated with mobile phone dependence(r=-0.412,P<0.001).Time management disposition was negatively correlated with mobile phone dependence(r=-0.310,P<0.001).Self-esteem was positively correlated with time management disposition(r=0.514,P<0.001).Time management disposition of college students had a significant mediating role in the influence of self-esteem on mobile phone dependence[95%CI(-0.3613,-0.0010)].Conclusion College students are highly dependent on mobile phone.Time management plays a mediating role in the influence of self-esteem on mobile phone dependence,which can reduce mobile phone dependence by improving the sense of time value,the sense of time monitoring and the sense of time efficacy.
