"Alexandria on the Oxus"as mentioned in Ptolemy's Geography was indeed the product of integration of various sources of information.Hellenistic cities such as Ai-Khanoum,Takht-i Sangin,Kampir Tepe, and Old Termez had in fact little relationship with Alexandria the Great, but developed from the efforts of Greco-Bactrian people.By the time of the completion of Geography, these cities either declined or experienced the gradual homogenisation of functions.Only the Old Termez flourished under the Kushan Empire, and consequently mistaken by Ptolemy as the Alexandria on the Oxus.
