On Normalization of English Translation of Tibetan Medicine Names
Tibetan medicine is a treasure of Tibetan culture and an important part of traditional medicine of China.Since it was introduced to Europe and the United States in the 18th and 19th centuries respectively,Tibetan med-icine has gradually received the attention of the international community.At present,China needs to further pro-mote the international dissemination of Tibetan medicine to define China's prominent role and influence in Tibet-an medicine for the international community.Thus,this paper attempts to normalize the English translation of the Tibetan medicine names by firstly analyzing the development of Tibetan medicine in the international and do-mestic contexts,then studying the characteristics of the names of Tibetan medicines,as well as the translation methods applied by the domestic and foreign Tibetan medicine producers and in various related literatures,and finally putting forward a strategy and some specific translation methods of normalizing the English translation of the Tibetan medicine names,with the aim to improve the effectiveness of the international dissemination of Chi-na's Tibetan medicine and to maintain it's role in international discourse of the Tibetan medicine.
