Inheritance and Development of Tibetan Medicine in the New Era——An Interview with Prof Gawai Doji,a famous expert in Tibetan medicine and National Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritor
Professor Gawai Doji,a well-known expert in Tibetan medicine in the Tibet Autonomous Region and a doctoral supervisor of University of Tibetan Medicine,has made outstanding contributions in the field of Tibetan medicine,especially in compounding Tibetan medicines,so he was recognized by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China in 2007 as the representative inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage project of Tibetan medicine,"Lhasa Northern School of Quicksilver Refining Skill and the Formulating Technolo-gy of Rinchen Trangjor(rin-chen-grang-sbyong,a important Tibetan medicine).Professor Gawai Doji has dedi-cated himself in the research of Tibetan medicine,and his work"vkhrungs-dpe-dri-med-shel-gyi-me-long"was awarded the first prize for excellent works in the First International Symposium on Ethnomedicine and Tech-nology,and the second prize for making scientific progress in the Tibet Autonomous Region.This article con-tains the content of an interview with Prof Gawai Doji on his academic achievements and influence in Tibetan medicine as well as his academic viewpoints and practical experience of Tibetan medicine.
