The article adopts a historical anthropology approach, avoiding the previously established scholarly ana-lytical framework that labeled the Nepalese'Qiaomin'as'merchants.'Similarly,it does not use the concept of'di-aspora'as the research category to analyze the Nepalese community in Tibet.Instead,it employs the concept of'Qiaomin"(including nationals, expatriates and immigrants)which has long been developed in China,to define and study the mobile or long-settled Nepalese people in Tibet. From a temporal perspective, the article compre-hensively reviews the changes of the Nepalese Qiaomin community in Tibet across three major historical periods. At the same time, from a spatial dimension,it provides an overview of three religious sites associated with the Nepalese community and their basic conditions. The article argues that Nepalese Qiaomin in Tibet,in specific historical and spatial contexts, continuously engaged in interactions with the local society.Politically, they played the role of envoys and coordinators for different ruling powers;culturally, they acted as bridges and trans-mitters;economically,they served as links and drivers.
