The Changes in the Meaning of Chinese Homophonic Culture from the Perspective of Design Semiotics
The influence of homophonic culture on the language use and daily lives of Chinese people is profound. This study employs a semiotic approach, drawing upon the theories of Saussure and Roland Barthes,to examine the principles and connotations of design works and behaviors shaped by the influence of homophonic culture. The linguistic practices, design works, and everyday behavioral patterns, which have their roots in homophones, not only perpetuate traditional Chinese culture but also serve to reinforce the innovative deployment of traditional auspicious homophonic symbols, elements, patterns, and rituals.
