Research on the application of traditional Tibetan medicine ocular puncture in modern temporal cataract surgery and its efficacy evaluation
Purpose The research is to observe the efficacy of traditional Tibetan medicine cataract puncture with modern cataract extracapsular extraction and+IOL implantation in terms of visual acuity, complications and postoper-ative astigmatism.Method A total of 2350 patients with 2400 cataracts underwent oculocentesis with traditional Ti-betan medicine, and a puncture incision of three medium-sized wheat diameters(about 3~4.5mm)in length of the temporal angle sclerabal tunnel was performed, and cataract extracapsular extraction+IOL implantation was per-formed.The scleral tunnel closed itself without sutures.Result Nearly 52.29%of the 2,350 patients with 2,400 eyes had a best-corrected visual acuity better than or equal to 0.5 within 7 days after surgery, and the incisions healed in all cases. The main postoperative complications were transient corneal edema, anterior chamber flash and temporary high intraocular pressure. Conclusion Traditional Tibetan medicine cataract puncture extracapsular extraction+IOL implantation surgery is safe, fast vision recovery, small astigmatism, low instrument cost, and easy to master. The op-eration is not affected by the eyebrow arch, especially for patients with small palpebral fissures and deep eye sockets, and leaves good local surgical conditions for patients with glaucoma and other surgeries in the later stage.Apparently,it is an effective method that can be widely promoted in the prevention and treatment of blindness in grassroots hos-pitals and remote high-altitude areas.
