Impact of economic complexity on carbon emission in Huaihai Economic Zone
Economic structure and development level have important influence on regional carbon emission.Taking Huaihai Economic Zone as an example, the panel data from 2005 to 2021 are selected to make economic complexity index and carbon emission visible, and the fixed-effect model is used to analyze the impact of economic complexity on carbon emission. The results showed that the high values of economic complexity index have gradually undergone a transition from scattered distribution in a"multi-point"manner to a"cluster"agglomeration pattern. The high val-ues of carbon emission mainly located in Jining to Suzhou section, and gradually gathered along the line. There was a significant negative correlation between economic complexity and carbon emission, with higher economic complexi-ty resulting in lower carbon emission. The impact of economic complexity on carbon emission showed significant heterogeneity, with the carbon reduction effect of economic complexity on non-resource-based counties greater than resource-based counties.Improving economic complexity, reducing carbon emissions from multiple perspectives, tightening government regulation, and improving technological capabilities can contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions in Huaihai Economic Zone.
