The theory of"Orientalism"proposed by the famous literary theorist and critic Said in his book Orientalism published in 1979 provides a new perspective for the study and interpretation of literary works during the postcolonial period.This article in-tends to use this theory as the basis and take,M.Butterfly and Chinglish,two representative plays of Chinese American writer David Henry Hwang's,as case studies to analyze the inadequacy of his works in deconstructing Orientalism,and further explore the possible reasons for this incompleteness from the perspective of the author's identity.
