Research on Yancheng-related Literature in Late Qing Dynasty Periodicals
From 1876,when the Thousand Buddha Tower in Yancheng's Thousand Buddha Temple written by Tianchang Xuan Thin Mei was published, until 1911,a total of 128 articles with"Yancheng"in their titles were included in late Qing Dynasty periodicals. The Yancheng-related content in these periodicals reflects the late Qing government′s emphasis on media and the promotion of"saving the country through industrial development,"especially the calls for improving agriculture, technology, and education. This aligns with the historical context of the New Deal of the late Qing dynasty. The periodical practices and experi-ences of that time provided valuable references for future newspaper and periodical editing practices. However, the emphasis on traditional Chinese learning limited the spread of these periodicals to specific circles.
