In contemporary music composition,many composers draw inspiration from elements of traditional Chinese culture.Zhang Zhao's piano piece"China's Dream"is an exemplary case where the musical imagery,structural layout,and thematic melodies are derived from traditional Chinese cultural elements and are presented through modern compositional techniques.Therefore,this article focuses on the historical prototypes and contemporary expressions of traditional Chinese cultural elements.It explores the musical imagery inspired by the"I Ching,"the musical structure drawn from traditional Xiqu,the bell chime sounds expressed through atonal harmony of Western,and the Guqin theme represented through Western thematic development techniques.This cultural inspiration is then integrated into performance practice and reflections on contemporary Chinese music composition.The conclusion drawn is that new-era music creation should be rooted in traditional Chinese culture.Only by drawing strengths from various techniques,integrating,and innovating can a work be considered an outstanding piece of contemporary Chinese music.
