Parents'willingness of pneumococcal vaccination of children and its influencing factors in Hainan Province
Objective To understand the willingness of parents to immunize their children with pneumococcal vaccine and its influencing factors in Hainan Province,and to provide basis for revising vaccination strategy.Methods From September to October 2023,a questionnaire survey was conducted among parents who vaccinated their children in preventive vaccination clinics in Haikou City,Wanning City and Baisha Li Autonomous Prefecture of Hainan Province,and who were selected by the convenience sampling method on their willingness of pneumococcal vaccination and its influencing factors.SPSS 26.0 software was used for x2 test and binary Logistic regression analysis.Results Of the 778 parents effectively surveyed,696(89.46％)were willing to immunize their children with pneumococcal vaccine,and among the reasons for their willingness to be immunized,"pneumococcal vaccine has a preventive effect"was selected most frequently,with 592(85.06％)people selecting it.A total of 82(10.54％)people were not willing to immunize their children with pneumococcal vaccine,and the most frequently chosen reason for unwilling to be immunized was"the cost of pneumococcal vaccine is too high",which was chosen by 32(39.02％)people.Binary logistic regression analysis showed that the rate of parents'willingness to vaccinate was lower among those whose survey site was a primary healthcare facility(OR=0.427,95％CI:0.220-0.830);the price acceptance of pneumococcal vaccine in the range of 200-499 yuan(OR=3.583,95％CI:1.705-7.529)and 500 yuan and above(OR=4.236,95％CI:1.633-10.900)were positively associated with the rate of parental willingness to vaccinate;the rate of parental willingness to vaccinate was high among parents who knew that pneumococcal vaccine has a preventive effect(OR=4.556,95％CI:2.696-7.697)and who believed in doctor-recommended vaccine information(OR=3.251,95％CI:1.577-6.705)(P＜0.05).Conclusions Most parents in Hainan Province are willing to vaccinate their children with pneumococcal vaccine,with acceptance of the price of the vaccine,positive cognition of the vaccine and trust in the doctor's recommendation being the main factors influencing the willingness to vaccinate.Publicity and education should be further strengthened to increase the level of positive cognition of children's parents,which in turn will increase the willingness to be vaccinated.
