Analysis on the willingness and affecting factors of COVID-19 vaccination among people aged 60 years and above in Shaanxi Province
Objective To investigate the willingness and main affecting factors of COVID-19(corona virus disease 2019)vaccination among people aged 60 years and above in Shaanxi Province. Methods An online questionnaire survey on COVID-19 vaccination willingness through WeChat and other means was conducted among people aged 60 years and above in Shaanxi Province who were selected through the random sampling method in December 2022.Chi-square test and multivariate logistic analysis were used to analyze the collated data. And P<0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results A total of 6 173 questionnaires were returned in this survey. The willingness rate for COVID-19 vaccination was 91.4%.A total of 4 638(75.1%)respondents received three doses of CO VID-19 vaccine. The number of unvaccinated people was the largest among those over 80 years old, accounting for 50.4%.The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the main influencing factors of lower vaccination intention in the elderly were living in rural areas(odds ratio OR=1.311,P=0.044),general physical condition(OR=1.766,P<0.001)and poor physical condition(OR=5.076,P<0.001).The main reasons for wanting to be vaccinated were the belief that immunity would be developed after vaccination(71.9%),the belief that the vaccine was safe(64.8%)and the government's requirement for vaccination(63.3%).The main reasons for unwillingness to be vaccinated included the fear that the vaccine was unsafe(46.9%),the fear that vaccination would aggravate existing underlying diseases(46.3%),and the lack of awareness whether they could be vaccinated with underlying diseases(40.3%).Conclusions The willingness of CO VID-19 vaccination was relatively high among people aged 60 years and above in Shaanxi Province in 2022.However,it is still necessary to strengthen the information and education of the knowledge about COVID-19 vaccine for those elderly people who lived in rural areas and those who had poor physical conditions, especially for the elderly over 80 years old and above,to further increase their vaccination intention.
