Analysis of oral health status of primary school students in Longquanyi District of Chengdu City from 2019 to 2023
Objective To investigate the oral health status among primary school students in Longquanyi District,Chengdu City,and to provide basis for formulating strategies for oral health promotion among this population in this district.Methods Data on oral health examinations were collected from all third-grade students in Longquanyi District from 2019 to 2023.Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS 22.0.Differences in the rates among primary school students by year,gender and region were analyzed by Chi-square test,with a significance level of α=0.05.Results The malocclusion rate of the third-grade students in Longquanyi District of Chengdu City from 2019 to 2023 was 20.96%.The caries rate was 65.49%,and the caries filling rate was 14.92%.The mean DMFT(decayed,missing and filled teeth)index was 3.19.The caries rate of permanent teeth was 23.38%,the caries filling rate was 12.70%,and the mean DMFT index was 0.53.From 2019 to 2023,there was a decrease trend in the caries rate(x2trend=566.21,P<0.001)and an increase trend in the filling rate(x2trend=1 724.28,P<0.001).The fissure sealant rate of the first permanent molars was 8.86%,the caries rate was 21.71%,the restoration rate was 12.82%,and the mean DMFT index was 0.51.Female students had a higher caries rate than male students(x2=46.4,P<0.001).The caries rate(x2=1 223.74,P<0.001)and the mean DMFT index of urban students were higher than those of rural students.The restoration rate(x2=3 227.42,P<0.001)and the fissure sealant rate(x2=204.82,P<0.001)of urban students were both higher than those of rural students.Conclusions The caries rate and the mean DMFT index were high,while the filling rate was low among the third-grade students in Longquanyi District.Decay of permanent teeth was mainly concentrated in the first permanent molars.It is recommended to advance the comprehensive prevention and control strategy for children's oral diseases.Government leadership,departmental collaboration,and social participation,should be emphasized to continuing promoting the comprehensive prevention and control of children's oral diseases.
