Analysis on the current situation and influencing factors of overweight and obesity among primary and secondary school students in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in 2023
Objective To investigate the current situation and influencing factors of overweight and obesity among primary and secondary school students in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in 2023,and to provide a basis for the prevention and control of overweight and obesity among primary and secondary school students in the Yi ethnic area.Methods Based on the 2023 National Student Common Diseases and Health Influencing Factors Surveillance and Intervention Project,stratified random cluster sampling method was used to select primary and secondary school students from 17 counties/cities in Liangshan Prefecture for physical examination,diet and exercise questionnaire survey.Chi-square test and Logistic regression analysis were conducted by SPSS 23.0 software for analysis,and the test level was α=0.05.Results In 2023,a total of 30 412 primary and secondary school students were investigated,and the detection rate of overweight and obesity was 18.0%.The detection rate of overweight and obesity was 11.7%and 6.3%,respectively.The prevalence of overweight and obesity in male students(18.9%)was higher than that in female students(17.1%)(x2=15.960,P<0.001),and that in urban students(22.4%)was higher than that in suburban students(16.9%)(x2=98.693,P<0.001).Chi-square test results showed that there were statistically significant differences in whether the normal and overweight/obese students lived in school,the frequency of fresh fruits in the past week,the number of types of fresh fruit,the frequency of eating vegetables,the number of types of vegetables,the frequency of drinking milk,yogurt,soybean milk or soy milk,the frequency of eating breakfast,the number of days of medium and high intensity exercise of more than 60 minutes in the past week,and the number of days of medium and high intensity exercise of more than 60 minutes in weekends and holidays(all P<0.05).The results of multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of overweight and obesity among suburban students was lower than that of urban students(odds ratio OR=0.780,95%confidence interval CI:0.708-0.860),that of female students was lower than that of male students(OR=0.907,95%CI:0.839-0.981),that of high school students was higher than that of elementary school students(OR=1.153,95%CI:1.015-1.310),that of non-resident students was higher than that of resident students(OR=1.312,95%CI:1.189-1.449),and that of students who had engaged in moderate to high intensity exercise for more than 60 minutes in the past week for 4-7 days was higher than that of students who had engaged in exercise less than 1 day(OR=1.111,95%CI:1.003-1.230).Conclusions The prevalence of overweight and obesity among primary and secondary school students in Liangshan Prefecture had increased.Overweight and obesity were related to demographic characteristics,diet and exercise behavior.Targeted intervention measures should be taken to reduce the incidence of overweight and obesity among primary and secondary school students in the Yi ethnic area.
