Survey on sexual and reproductive health awareness of students in a college in Qingdao city
Objective To understand the status of college students' sexual and reproductive health awareness in a college in Qingdao city,so as to provide a basis for the effective implementation of sexual and reproductive health education in col-leges and universities.Methods In May 2022,a total of 1 039 students of grade 1,2,3,4 from a college in Qingdao city were selected with the method of stratified cluster sampling.Self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate the basic knowledge of sexual and reproductive health,knowledge of sexually transmitted diseases,sexual attitudes and sexual be-havior of university students.Results The awareness rate of university students about the signs of maturity of male re-productive organs,embryonic development organs and ovulation projection was low,with 62.9%(646/1 026),64.2%(659/1 026)and 25.1%(258/1 026),respectively.The difference between the knowledge rates of boys and girls was sta-tistically significant(x2=93.531,24.905,5.15;P=0.000,0.000,0.023)with regard to the markers of maturation of the female genital organs,the organs that produce egg cells in females,and the safe period of the menstrual cycle.The difference on the awareness rate between grade 1,2 and grade 3,4 was statistically significant on marker of reproductive organ maturity of male and the organ that produces oocyte(x2 was 7.478,15.447;P was 0.006,0.000).The awareness rate of the college students on AIDS,syphilis and gonorrhea was 80.0%(821/1 026),92.9%(953/1 026)and 62.0%(636/1 026)respectively.The awareness rate of the college students on genital herpes,chancroid,condyloma acumina-tum,venereal lymphogranuloma,nongonococcal urethritis was 29.9%(307/1 026),12.3%(126/1 026),50.5%(518/1 026),16.2%(166/1 026)and 19.6%(201/1 026)respectively.A total of 81%(831/1 026)of college students reported acceptance of premarital sex,32.4%(332/1 026)had sex experience,and 8%(82/1 026)had 2 or more sexual partners.Conclusion College students at a university in Qingdao city have less knowledge about sexual and reproductive health,more open sexual attitudes,and more premarital sex.
