Analysis on current situation and influencing factors of influenza vaccination among middle school and below students in dongying district during influenza season
Objective To understand the current status of influenza vaccination for students in junior high school and be-low during the influenza season in Dongying district,Dongying city, and to explore the main factors affecting students'in-fluenza vaccination. Methods A questionnaire survey on the current status of influenza vaccination awareness was con-ducted in March-April 2023 through the Questionnaire Star platform using an electronic questionnaire for parents of students in junior high school and below under the jurisdiction of 4 digitized preventive vaccination clinics in Dongying dis-trict of Dongying city.We collected information on the status of influenza vaccination, gender of the parents, type of school, where the household belongs to,whether it is an only child, the relationship of the parent to the student, the parent's age, parental occupation, parental literacy, average monthly household income, and whether they are worried about the dual epidemic of COVID-19 and influenza.Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the factors affecting students'influenza vaccination. Results A total of 1 818 qualified questionnaires were collected in the survey,39.93%(726/1 818)had been vaccinated with influenza vaccine for their children. The single factor analysis showed that different types of schools(x2=26.858,P<0.001),household locations(x2=5.113,P=0.024),parental occupations(x2=124.133,P<0.001)and literacy levels(x2=62.848,P<0.001),average monthly household income(x2=27.619,P<0.001),and whether they were worried about the double epidemic of COVID-19 and influenza(x2=22.429,P<0.001)were statistically significant differences between parents who were concerned about influenza vaccination during the influenza season.According to multi-factor analysis, parents who are teachers(OR=7.756,95%CI:3.766-15.973,P<0.001)and medical staff(OR=11.010,95%CI:4.808-25.211,P<0.001)were generally more willing to take their children to vaccinate against influenza vaccine.Among the re-spondents,parents who known that influenza vaccine needs to be vaccinated every year(OR=2.208,95%CI:1.611-2.553,P<0.001)and were worried about the double epidemic of influenza and COVID-19(OR=1.815,95%CI:1.310-2.514,P<0.001)were more willing to take their children to vaccinate against influenza vaccine in the influenza season. Conclusion The influenza vaccine coverage rate of middle school and below students in Dongying district is relatively low.Parents'occupations and those who know that the flu vaccine needs to be given annually and are concerned about double epidemic of influenza and COVID-19 are more likely to get their children vaccinated against influenza during the flu season.
