Analysis on current status and needs of urban and rural elderly care in an ethnic minority area of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region
Objective To understand the living conditions and needs of urban and rural elderly in an ethnic minority area of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region,so as to provide a basis for the development of elderly care services in minority are-as.Methods From January to February 2023,a household survey was conducted using questionnaires among 310 elder-ly aged 60 and above in county L of an ethnic minority area in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.Information on demo-graphic characteristics,current living conditions,and elderly care needs was collected.Differences in elderly care conditions between urban and rural areas were analyzed using x2 test.Factors influencing elderly concerns about care were analyzed u-sing a logistic regression model,and the KANO model was used to prioritize various elderly care services in the question-naire.Results A total of 294 respondents were included in the study,with a satisfaction rate of 78.23%(230/294).Significant differences between urban and rural elderly were found in loneliness frequency(x2=8.701),accessibili-ty of medical services(x2=19.109),economic income(x2=8.320),living conditions(x2=8.239),fitness and recrea-tional facilities(x2=33.084),and concerns about elderly care(x2=9.187)(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that the elderly who often felt lonely(OR=3.940),had no children(OR=7.630),or had only one child(OR=5.185)were more likely to be concerned about elderly care(P<0.05).The KANO model indicated that 3 serv-ices,including family care,were expected needs for both urban and rural elderly,while 4 services,such as home medical visits,were attractive needs.Seven services,including policy and legal consultation,were indifferent needs.Purchasing daily necessities was an indifferent need for the urban elderly but an attractive need for the rural elderly.Conclusion The eld-erly in an ethnic minority area of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region currently have a high level of satisfaction with elderly care.There are differences between urban and rural elderly in loneliness frequency,accessibility of medical services,economic income,living conditions,fitness,and recreational facilities,and concerns about elderly care.Different elderly care services ex-hibit different demand attributes,and expected and attractive needs should be prioritized.
