Dynamic management and characteristics analysis of medical waste based on information systems
Objective Using a medical waste information management system to study the dynamic characteristics of medical waste generation and improvement measures.Methods The medical waste generated by Liuzhou Hospital of Guangzhou Women and Children Medical Center from January 1,2020 to December 30,2022 was selected as the object of the study,and the data were obtained from the hospital's medical waste information management system to analyze the to-tal amount of medical waste,the ratio of the composition of medical waste,the ranking of the classification of medical waste,and the relationship between the volume of medical services and the volume of medical waste in the hospi-tal.Microsoft excel 2021,SPSS 23.0 and GraphPad Prism 9.0 were used to analyze the data.Results The total amount of medical waste from 2020 to 2022 was 90 636.85 kilograms,98 021.94 kilograms,and 134 272.05 kilograms,with sig-nificant fluctuations;Infectious medical waste accounted for the largest proportion,with over 87%.The departments ranked from high to low in terms of total infectious waste were laboratory,medical genetics,intensive care unit,neonatal wards,and anesthesiology;The departments ranked from high to low in terms of hazardous waste were emergency medi-cine department,laboratory department,pediatric ward,obstetrics ward,and pediatric surgery ward.The pollution genera-tion coefficient rangeed from 0.50 to 0.69 kg/bed/day.The difference in medical waste volume between 2020 and 2021 was not statistically significant(t=1.33,P=0.48),and the difference in medical waste volume between 2022 and 2020,and 2022 and 2021 was statistically significant(t=5.20,4.07,P=0.000 3,0.002 1,respectively);inpatient bed occu-pancy time and inpatient medical waste volume showed a significant positive correlation(rs=0.96,P<0.01).Conclu-sion The hospital's total medical waste volume fluctuates widely from 2020 to 2022,with the largest percentage of infec-tious medical waste.The laboratory department had the highest total infectious waste,the emergency medicine department had the highest total injurious waste,and the amount of inpatient medical waste was correlated with the length of time the hospital occupied a bed.
