Analysis of willingness and influencing factors of pre-exposure prophylaxis among 514 men who have sex with men who use synthetic drugs
Objective To investigate the willingness to use pre-exposure prophylaxis(PrEP)for HIV among men who have sex with men(MSM)who use synthetic drugs as well as the influencing factors,so as to provide a reference for the promotion of PrEP.Methods A survey was conducted among 514 MSM at an AIDS surveillance sentinel site in Shan-dong province from April to July 2022.Questionnaires were used to collect information on sociodemographic characteris-tics,sexual behavior, synthetic drug use,and willingness to use PrEP.Chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression models were employed to analyze the willingness to use PrEP and its influencing factors. Results The average age of the 514 MSM was(30.38±8.67)years.Among them,47.86%(246/514)reported using synthetic drugs more than once a week,72.57%(373/514)expressed willingness to use PrEP,69.26%(356/514)had someone around them who had used PrEP,and 15.56%(80/514)had used PrEP themselves.Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that MSM who sought male partners through the internet/dating apps(OR=2.47,95%CI:1.32-4.64),had undergone HIV tes-ting in the past year(OR=3.39,95%CI:1.23-9.33),had heard of PrEP(OR=5.32,95%CI:2.97-9.54),and had someone around them using PrEP(OR=2.17,95%CI:1.18-3.98)were more willing to use PrEP(P<0.05).Con-clusion MSM who use synthetic drugs have a high willingness but low usage rate of PrEP.Factors influencing their will-ingness to use PrEP include seeking male partners through the internet/dating apps, having undergone HIV testing in the past year, having heard of PrEP,and having someone around them using PrEP,according to authoritative sources such as academic research and public health reports.
