Health literacy status and influencing factors of middle school students in Jining
Objective To understand the health literacy level of middle school students in Jining city and its influencing factors,and to provide evidence for the development of intervention measures to improve the health literacy of middle school students.Methods In February 2023,6,600 middle school students from 11 counties and urban areas in Jining City were selected by the multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method.An online questionnaire was used to in-vestigate the health literacy status of middle school students,and multivariate logistic regression was adopted to analyze the influencing factors of the health literacy of middle school students.Results The total level of health literacy of mid-dle school students in Jining city was 23.20%.Female students(x2=10.13,P<0.001),ordinary senior high school students(x2=282.63,P<0.001),urban students(x2=90.95,P<0.001),contracted common diseases(x2=66.53,P<0.001),not contracted chronic diseases(x2=10.84,P<0.001),smoking(x2=4.53,P=0.033),only children(x2=62.15,P<0.001),father has an educational attainment of high school or above(x2=89.83,P<0.001),mother has an educational attainment of high school or above(x2=66.12,P<0.001),nuclear families(x2=20.52,P=0.03)have a higher overall health literacy rate than the reference group.Multivariate analysis showed that female students(OR=1.20,95%CI:1.06~1.37),ordinary senior high school students(OR=2.39,95%CI:2.11~2.72),urban students(OR=1.51,95%CI:1.31~1.74),contracted com-mon diseases(OR=1.59,95%CI:1.37~1.84),only children(OR=1.42,95%CI:1.22~1.65),father has an edu-cational attainment of high school or above(OR=1.36,95%CI:1.17~1.59),mother has an educational attainment of high school or above(OR=1.21,95%CI:1.04~1.41)were positive factors in evaluating the health literacy of middle school students.The P values are all less than 0.05.Vocational high school(OR=0.52,95%CI:0.37~0.74),contract-ed chronic diseases(OR=0.45,95%CI:0.26~0.79),intergenerational family(OR=0.68,95%CI:0.46~0.995)are the negative factors to evaluate the health literacy of middle school students.The P values are all less than 0.05.Conclusion Gender,school stage,place of household registration,illness status,parents'educational level and family struc-ture are the main influencing factors for the health literacy of middle school students.It is recommended to establish a joint intervention network involving multiple sectors such as families,schools and communities,and strengthen the cultivation of middle school students'health literacy in multiple aspects and dimensions.
