During the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Jiangnan was an important cultural base for Chinese cuisine,as well as an era and region where famous doctors and experts emerged from generation to generation.From the perspective of diets,researches on the works and medical records by Jiangnan doctors at that time reveal there is plenty of documentation on Jiangnan diets from Ming-Qing medical books,which influenced the daily diet,dietary therapy,and treatment taboos of doctors then.Meanwhile,based on the prosperity of Jiangnan medicine,the diet cultivation and food therapy by Jiangnan doctors are characterized by the four major points,including a monopolar-pluralism theoretical guidance,active exploration for health cultivation practices suitable for Jiangnan climates,widely clinical application of native Jiangnan food materials,and using food as guidance under the perspective of traditional"elephant(resemblance)"thinking.With chronically viewing ancient and modern changes,the exploration for diet cultivation and therapy by Jiangnan doctors in the Ming and Qing Dynasties is of great significance for the integration and inheritance of traditional Chinese medicine culture,traditional dietary culture,and regional culture.
