Originated from China, acupuncture and moxibustion had undergone a profound transformation from Japan in the middle of the 20th century, and gradually became an important tool for the implementation of modern healthcare cause. In this process, the academic school formed by CHENG Dan'an,QIU Maoliang,YANG Jiasan,SHAO Jingming,GAO Zhenwu,XIE Xiliang and the Journal of Acupuncture and Moxibustion founded by them became an important theoretical stronghold for the acceptance of scientization of acupuncture and moxibustion. After CHENG returned from Japan, the doctors of Cheng school began to explore on their own the modern scientific approaches to re-determine the efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion, actively spreading their practice worldwide and participating in the initial construction of corresponding world medical system. From a global view, the introduction of western medicine promotes revolution of medical knowledge and healthcare system in the early modern period of both China and Japan. However, from the perspective of the school's historical development, the Chinese acupuncturists have shown more innovation and rationality compared with their Japanese counterparts. Most successors have matured from traditional apprentices, functioned voluntarily as a link for communicating international academic theories and traditional medical practices, and emphasized on curative effect through combining academic achievements with reality to serve the society.
