Based on ZENG Guofan Jia Shu(《曾国藩家书》ZENG Guofan's Family Letters)and ZENG Guofan Ri Ji(《曾国藩日记》ZENG Guofan's Diary),this paper analyzes the primary diseases that troubled ZENG Guofan's life and his views on health preservation from a medical perspective. The study showed that ZENG Guofan was afraid of heat, exhibited symptoms of quick fatigue, insomnia, and night sweats, which suggest a constitution of Yin deficiency,Qi deficiency,or both.Furthermore, dermatophytosis was the primary disease that troubled him throughout his life.In his youth, tinnitus was induced by physical and mental pressure. While in his middle and old age,he suffered from eye diseases and signs of premature aging such as fatigue, visual impairment, frequent urination, and dizziness, which may be attributed to syndromes of liver blood and kidney essence deficiency.Regarding health preservation,ZENG Guofan advocated for a natural approach based on a regular diet, balanced work and rest, and emotion regulation, opposing reliance on medicine as the main method of health preservation. The illnesses and health management perspectives of ZENG Guofan throughout his life can provide insights for personal health management.
