Tracing the evolution and development process of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)discipline system since the mid-20th century,one can sort out three main lines,four secondary lines,and numerous scattered branch lines of interdisciplinary research.Three main lines of interdisciplinary research were formed in three marginal intersection areas between TCM and Western Medicine,Natural Science,as well as Social Science,while four secondary lines of interdisciplinary research were formed in sequence in marginal intersection areas between TCM and four science sections including Philosophical Science,Systems Science,Mathematical Science,and Thinking Science.The scattered branch lines of interdisciplinary research were mainly distributed in marginal intersection areas between TCM and several disciplinary sub-sections of interdisciplinary science,as well as within the disciplinary intersection areas of TCM.The three fundamental strategies for promoting interdisciplinary research in TCM in the upcoming period are to bidirectionally explore the three main lines of interdisciplinary research,continuously expand the four secondary lines,and actively develop various scattered branch lines.
